Yolanda Saldívar Motive: Theories Abound in Selena Quintanilla …

The world of Tejano music was rocked by the murder of singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez on March 31, 1995. And 22 years later, we still don’t know exactly why Yolanda Saldívar pulled the trigger.

Yolanda was a registered nurse who became the president of Selena’s San Antonio fan club and then the manager of her clothing boutiques. But the Quintanilla family realized the then 34-year-old was embezzling money, as Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., told The New York Times in 1995. Selena demanded that Yolanda hand over some of the boutique’s financial documents, so they agreed to meet at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, TX. In the course of that meeting, Yolanda pulled out a gun and shot Selena. The singer died from a loss of blood in the hospital an hour later. She was 23 years old.

Yolanda was convicted of murder in the first-degree and was

This Texas City Singer Reenacts Selena’s Life in ‘Murder Made Me …

Amanda Solis has always had a tough time dealing with death, at least since she lost her parents in a car crash when she was 6 years old. In hindsight, there was some troubling irony when she auditioned for an upcoming episode of Murder Made Me Famous, the docudrama series this time focusing on Yolanda Saldivar, the woman who killed Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla in Corpus Christi on March 31, 1995.

When she first watched Selena perform on television years ago, Solis couldn’t believe how much her mom resembled the superstar. From the bustier to the high-waisted pants to the beautiful round face and full lips, her mom had the same ‘90s Mexican-American look.

To be counted on and recognized for bringing the singer back to life is something very special for her, if a little morbid. “I can’t believe that [the program’s creators] even came to request me,” she tells us.

Selena’s Crazed Killer: The Super-Fan Obsession That Led To Murder

In 1995, Selena Quintanilla was living in a musical spotlight never before seen in Tejano singers of her time. With her lively sound and risqué fashion, she became the icon of a generation – but behind closed doors her problems quickly took a toll on her career, and ultimately cost her her life.

Yolanda Saldivar – the woman who ended up shooting Quintanilla to death inside a Corpus Christi hotel on March 31, 1995 – became quickly obsessed with the star when she saw her perform in her native Texas.

After becoming close to the talented performer, Saldivar became the president of her fan-club as well as her boutique manager.

A nurse by profession, Saldivar was eventually accused by the singer’s family of mishandling funds from both businesses.

They threatened legal action and fired her – an act which allegedly infuriated the crazed murderer and led her to commit her horrendous

Inside The Sexy Style & ‘Rockstar’ Beginnings Of The Late Selena

Selena Quintanilla may now be known as the Tejano singer who died too young at the hands of a violent super-fan, but back in her heyday, she was known as the gorgeous star who inspired viewers with her melodic voice and risqué fashion.

“As Selena’s sound evolved, so did her style,” a narrator says in the teaser of REELZ’s latest Murder Made Me Famous episode: Yolanda Saldivar.

“She was going for almost like rockstar-type clothing. So bustiers: Madonna wears them, Selena’s starting to wear them,” says Selena: Como La Flor author Joe Nick Patoski in the clip.

“It was a very bold kind of fashion. [Her father] wasn’t cool with that – like any father shouldn’t be cool with that,” says Corpus Christi Caller-Times journalist Tom Whitehurst.

“It’s not like dressing slutty, but it’s like you always show more on stage than you would in normal life… but it’s provocative,” adds Patoski.
